The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an open-world action adventure game and a continuation of Link and Zelda's adventures. The game is part of a popular series, developed by Nintendo for more than 30 years at the time of writing. It's also a direct sequel to the bestselling The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, implementing many new features that had to be cut from its predecessor due to lack of time. Both games feature similar gameplay and artstyle.

Plot

The kingdom of Hyrule once again faces great danger, in form of an army of monsters influenced by the Blood Moon. The game's protagonist, Link, once again fights to defend the land, setting off towards islands suspended in the sky to find a way to prevent catastrophe.

Mechanics

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a third-person action game with survival elements, largely focused on exploration and puzzle-solving. The player faces numerous monsters, often requiring specific tactics, blocking, parrying or waiting for the perfect moment to strike. We must also take care of our equipment, brew potions and cook meals which can buff our character.

Abilities known from Breath of the Wild make their return here, including elemental skills. Link can manipulate fire, move water from different tanks or stop time, which comes in handy both during combat and puzzles.

Another recurring element are extensive exploration methods. From now on, Link can not only climb, move on horseback or glide with a paraglider, but also use new means of transportation - vehicles resembling cars or drones. The latter is especially useful during aerial exploration, as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features levitating islands to explore. Link can now also use rails to move between different locations in no time.

Amiibo

The game supports Nintendo-produced Amiibo figurines - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom released at the same time as its dedicated Link amiibo. In addition to being a collector's item, it also provides some in-game bonuses such as crafting materials and a unique paraglider skin.
