Shadows of Doubt PC

Shadows of Doubt is an action adventure game combining stealth and detective elements. The game was developed by ColePowered Games studio, which is known for Concrete Jungle.

Plot

The game is set in an alternative version of the 1980s with a much higher level of industrialization than it was in reality. The action takes place in a gloomy metropolis, where the authorities have privatized the police, handing over their duties to corporations and individual contractors.

You're playing the part of one of those private detectives. He was interested in the high prize that was awarded for catching a serial killer who had been terrorizing the entire city for some time. But the investigation will reveal many other secrets.

Mechanics

Shadows of Doubt combines elements of detective adventure games and stealth games. We observe the events from a first person perspective. While we play, we explore the city, gather evidence, break into confined spaces, talk and sneak into places where you can't get in normally.

The city has an open structure. All buildings and every room can be freely explored. In addition, the population of the metropolis is controlled by advanced artificial intelligence modules. Each resident has his or her own needs, friends, favourite places and schedule every day, and we have to adapt our investigation to this. For example: breaking into someone's house is best planned for the moment when the owner is at work.

In addition to the main mission, the player can also take on a number of optional side quests, which allows you to gain extra cash. The game offers a great freedom in the choice of methods for each task. The game is made more attractive by the development system which allows to improve various skills of the hero, e.g. sneaking or opening locks with the lockpick.

Game modes

Shadows of Doubt offers single player mode only.

Technical aspects

The game has an unusual graphic design. It is fully three-dimensional, but the 3D objects are made in a style based on retro games. These simple models and pixelated textures are enriched with modern lighting effects.

It is worth mentioning that in Shadows of Doubt many aspects, including character attributes and some missions, are generated procedurally. To this, however, the authors added a lot of hand-designed elements. This makes the game have extensive storyline threads, but in many aspects the gameplay is unpredictable.
